Covenant Service

Back homeCovenant Service

Each year, the Covenant Service gives us a chance to pause and recommit ourselves to our relationship with God – and it's one of the most meaningful things we do together as a church community. We come to say, again, that we want to be part of what God is doing in the world, and to accept our place within the covenant he's made with all of Christ's disciples.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, that means accepting God's purpose for us and answering the call to love and serve him in every part of our lives – not just on Sundays.

Following Christ isn't always straightforward, of course. Some of what he asks of us feels natural and rewarding. Some of it is genuinely hard. Some paths bring recognition; others bring difficulty or sacrifice. There'll be times when serving Christ also brings us joy, and times when it means setting aside what we'd prefer. But here's the good news: we don't do any of this in our own strength. The power to live this way comes from Christ himself, who walks with us through all of it.

So we come to make this covenant our own – not out of obligation, but out of trust. Trust in God's promises, and in the grace he freely gives us.

We come saying: Eternal God, in your faithful and enduring love you call us to share in your gracious covenant in Jesus Christ. In obedience we hear and accept your commands; in love we seek to do your perfect will; with joy we offer ourselves anew to you. We are no longer our own but yours.
