An exhibition of The Methodist Modern Art Collection
Saturday 14 January to Sunday 23 April 2017
The Special Exhibitions Room
The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge 18 High Street, Canterbury thebeaney.co.uk
Kent College is delighted that it will be bringing the Methodist Modern Art Collection to Canterbury. The exhibition will offer a rare opportunity to see one of the most significant groups of contemporary religious art in Europe in its entirety.
Alongside the display of works, there will be a number of associated events, including a range of lectures hosted at various venues in Canterbury, and a full programme of activities for primary and senior schools.
I have now been to visit the collection and can confirm that very well worth going. It is about 50 pictures in one room so you may want to make the visit part of a bigger outing to Canterbury. I recommend buying the Guide to the Methodist Art Collection, £5 (available from the desk near the exhibition entrance) BEFORE you go in, it gives context to the paintings and explains, for example, why there is a man with a lion's head watching the raising of Lazarus. You can get a flavour of the works online here http://www.methodist.org.uk/prayer-and-worship/mmac/index
