Calais People to People Solidarity

Tony Graff and Christine are collecting items for people living in the migrant camp in Calais. They will be taking what is given to a drop off point in Kent on the evening of 14th September. The items will be taken by either "Calais – People to People Solidarity" or "Help Calais."

Here's a list of the kind of things that are needed:


  • Tents (double-skinned and complete. Multi-person tents are very welcome, as well as smaller ones)
  • Sleeping bags
  • Blankets
  • Mattresses
  • Camp beds
  • Roll mats
  • Pillows
  • Pillow cases
  • Wood pallets
  • Canvas sheets
  • Damp Proof Membrane (DMP) to cover the shelters
  • Plastic tarpaulins – for groundsheets
  • Rope
  • Chairs and stools, e.g. folding chairs, camping stools
  • Nails for wood


  • Shoes (trainers, walking shoes and boots)
  • Socks
  • Jackets
  • Shirts
  • Underwear
  • Waterproof jackets and trousers
  • Hats
  • Gloves
  • Hooded tops and sweatshirts
  • T-shirts
  • Thermal underwear
  • Belts


  • Anti-bacterial products
  • Cleaning products
  • Basic toiletry products (soap, shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, towels, kitchen paper, toilet paper, tissues, razors, shaving products, sanitary towels...)
  • Plastic basins (usable for a small laundry)
  • Basic first aid kits
  • Wet wipes
  • Rubbish bags
  • Plastic bins


  • Containers / Jerry cans for food and water
  • Tinned food
  • Tin openers
  • Non-perishable food
  • Flour
  • Oil
  • Onions and garlic
  • Salt, pepper, spices, tomato sauce and paste, lemon juice
  • Water (Bottles with taps are always useful)
  • Coffee, tea
  • Sugar
  • Milk (long-life)
  • Pans, pots, grills
  • Cooking utensils, cups, mugs, plates, bowls, cutlery
  • Gas stoves,


  • (Unlocked) mobile phones (and the chargers)
  • SIM Cards (French ones only, especially Lyca mobile)
  • Plug adaptors (UK -> continental, for UK phone chargers, etc)


  • Boxes for storage
  • Fire extinguishers
  • LED wind up lanterns
  • Umbrellas
  • Tools, including hammers
  • Wood – for construction and firewood
  • Duct tape
  • Candles
  • Tea-lights
  • Matches
  • Lighters

Improving everyday life

  • Books (different languages), including multi-lingual dictionaries
  • Sports gear (we do meet a few cricket fans, football fans...)
  • Radio (and batteries) / wind up radios
  • Bicycles:
  • Playing cards, card games, board games, dominoes
  • Pens, notebooks, paper
  • Art materials
